Question of the Day - 07 March 2026

Q:

Do you know of anyone who has taken advantage of the Canadian dollar at par offer downtown?

A:

We certainly do -- and regular readers of our Vegas News feature will surely recognize the name Canada Roy, who lives for his frequent trips to Las Vegas.

He tells us, "I was originally staying at the Downtown Grand for US$299. But as soon as the par deal was announced, I booked at the D for US$323. That turned into CDN$323, worth US$237 at the time of check-in. So right off the bat, I saved US$62 (CDN$84) with that first transaction.

"Later, I exchanged CDN$500 (US$368) for US$500 in free play. I posted up at the Vue Bar and played 8/5 BP with that wonderful 3-way progressive. After playing it through, I cashed out with US$449 for a US$81 win (CDN$110) ... and I didn't even hit a 4-of-a-kind!

"The promotion netted me a total profit/savings of US$143 or CDN$194.

"My savings/profit is actually on the low end of what people can expect. My LVA rate at DTG was US$299 for 5 nights. Most people's starting rate at this or another hotel will be significantly higher, so they'll save even more by switching to The D.

"Also, assuming perfect (or semi-perfect) play, 400 hands of VP give you an even-money (I think) chance at a 4OAK, which would net an additional profit of about US$31.25 to US$100.

"Bottom line, this promo is an absolute no-brainer for Canadians ... and you don't have to stay at The D/Golden Gate to take advantage of the at-par free play offer."

Thank you, Roy. Well done in every way.

An article on CDC Gaming on Wednesday reported that Circa, the D, and Golden Gate are experiencing "a surge in Canadian visitation" since launching the at-par program. CDC cites a news release that the three downtown properties have attracted more than 15,000 visitors in its first month with 2,700 hotel-room bookings.

    proud Canadian
Thanks for the info I was wondering if you had to stay at one of their locations to take advantage of the play deal. As I could not find any info on line about this. To bad it's over before I get there in Oct.

    Great marketing
I'm at frequent visitor to Nevada, and many of my acquaintances know this. I have received countless emails telling me of this promo, which since I'm a long time patron of Derek's properties I already knew about it. The offer is not so good for me as I always get free rooms and meals there already. Caesars on the other hand Sent me a similar but better offer for Reno where I was able to convert $2,500 can to U.S. dollars in cash at the current rate and given the difference in free play. I don't know if all Canadian customers got this offer, but I haven't heard a peep about it anywhere. Just lets you know how much marketing genius thecrew for Derek's properties have.

    How
How did you play the free play at Vue Bar? The machines there have never allowed free play. Did The D make a change to allow free play on those machines?

    Canada at Par
I just got back from Las Vegas last week and took advantage of the Canada at Par offer. I already had free rooms at the Golden Gate, so this was such a bonus. I gave the Cage $500 Canadian and they gave me a voucher for $500 U.S. to be played within 72 hours on slots only. I turned the $500 Canadian into $650 U.S. dollars. It's a 1-time offer. It's a great deal for Canadians.
