Question of the Day - 03 May 2019

Q:

With the legalization of marijuana, it’s only a matter of time until pot goes mainstream in Las Vegas. Are there any Nevada laws that require restaurants/businesses to disclose when they use products with CBD or other marijuana related products? For example, does a restaurant have to tell me if they use marijuana in their food prep? Or does a spa have to tell me if their massage therapists use CBD oil?

A:

No such laws are on the books at present.

However, state senators David Parks and Pat Spearman have introduced SB228, which “authorizes a provider of health care, massage therapist, nail technologist, reflexologist, structural integration practitioner, or person who provides wellness services” to use THC-infused productions … if you provide them yourself. According to KVVU-TV, “It also allows wellness professionals to recommend the use of marijuana or industrial hemp to treat a condition.”

At present, CBD-infused health products are being employed by therapists like those at MRI Massage, which uses hemp-derived cannabis. “It's just an amazing plant that has a lot of properties and benefits if used correctly,” says co-owner Erica Vickery. Were Vickery to be allowed to upgrade to THC, it “would benefit clients that come to us with rheumatoid arthritis, or fibromyalgia, those that are wanting a little bit higher dose."

Vickery has worries that the field of medicinal marijuana will be stampeded by all manner of reckless practitioners if the bill by Spearman and Parks is enacted. However, her worries might be allayed by a provision that would set up a Cannabis Control Commission. Yes, Nevada might get to set the standard on regulating pot as well as gambling.

Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom, who shepherded legal marijuana through the Legislature, adds, “The only authorized store that can sell marijuana is a marijuana dispensary – no restaurant or spa can use it or put it in your food. With respect to CBD oil, if it has no THC, there is no law or regulation that requires that it be disclosed.”

    CBD Oil
Erica Vickery is right on. “It's just an amazing plant that has a lot of properties and benefits if used correctly,”.
CBD is excellent anti-inflammatory for both people and animals. We use in on our dogs and ourselves. BUT there is a catch!!!!
Everyone is on the bandwagon to sell it. A study/review of 1,000 CBD brands showed little to no CBD oil.
So read up, ask your doc/vet on the correct ingredients and %s.
If you need the THC addition, check that too.

    CBD Oil - Correction
    I omitted an important fact.
Of the 1,000 tested 50% showed little to no oil.
    Apologies.
