Question of the Day - 15 June 2019

Q:

In your recent Question of the Day about tourism, you mentioned that “Circa” is coming to downtown. What is Circa?

A:

Circa is the name of the long-anticipated megaresort being built on a one-full-block parcel on Fremont Street between Main and First, on the site of the former Las Vegas Club, Girls of Glitter Gulch, and Mermaids Casino, all of which were demolished in 2017.

Meant to honor Las Vegas eras gone by ("circa 1940, circa 1960, circa 1990"), the Strip-style megaresort will occupy 1.25 million square feet, with 777 rooms in a 44-story tower. It will also house a two-level casino, five restaurants to be revealed later, the longest outdoor bar on Fremont Street, and a new nine-story 1,200-space parking garage (nicknamed “Garage Mahal”) with a pedestrian-bridge connection.

The tri-level sports book will be the largest in Las Vegas, with the "biggest screen in sports book history."

The pool area will be multi-tiered, creating an amphitheater effect; all tiers will have a view of a 125-foot-tall video screen for pool events and team watch parties.

The neon cowgirl, Vegas Vickie, which for decades graced the front of Girls of Glitter Gulch, will be incorporated into the lobby design.

Construction started in February, with a grand opening sometime in December 2020.

    stevens brothers, D
Best of luck for these owners. Being a fan of 97.1, I am looking forward to a NEW , SPACIOUS sports book, which the 'D' lacks , despite the promos. The long bar is GREAT ,can't wait to see the outdoor bar in 2020.keep it going boys, That NEW spot brings back memories of the GREAT MOMENTS ROOM,a great restaurant, when MEL EXBER AND JACKIE were the owners.

    Circa???
For the average gambler, not knowing what Circa is is understood. But if you’re on this site and didn’t already know? Not for nothing, but you don’t read enough Vegas/gambling info or listen to enough Vegas/gambling podcasts.

Not only is it going to be huge, shiny, new and pretty, but it’s significant since it’s the first casino being built from scratch downtown since 1980. That casino was the Sundance, which became Fitzgeralds, which became the D.

Apparently, my comments fill the LVA staff with a white-hot, overpowering rage. So this comment will have a short shelf life.

Downtown can't take the additional burden on traffic (foot and vehicle) and parking that the new megadump will impose. There will be the usual initial hype and consequent visitation, but after that, people will realize that it's just another toxic soup of resort fees, parking fees, lousy gaming, and overpriced rooms. It'll be like all the mid-Strip hotel/casinos: a place to burn $100 bills. Whee!!!

    Hey Kevin Lewis
WhI don't know what VP pay will be offered at Circa. The best indication would be to compare it to the Vue bar at the D which offers 8/5 BP and 9/6 JOB. Both of those schedules also have multiple progressive payouts as well. They are often among the best schedules offered in Vegas. Since the Stevens brothers own both places, what makes you believe that the gambling will be lousy???

Kevin, you can have an opinion. No direct insults here. No politics. This is downright sunshiny from you.
