Question of the Day - 17 March 2020

Q:

What are the chances of the Circa Casino really opening in December of 2020?

A:

Two weeks ago, we would've said that say they were very good. Here's why.

Circa's owner-developer, Derek Stevens, hasn't budged from the opening date in any number of press releases. To meet his self-imposed deadline, he’s got construction going around the clock, the annoyance of guests in neighboring hotels notwithstanding.

Unlike Resorts World Las Vegas, whose completion has now been pushed back well into 2021, and The Drew, which has no firm finishing date, Circa seemed well on course for an end-of-2020 opening. Obviously, Stevens wants to capture a piece of the lucrative Christmas-to-New Year’s Eve business and, at the very least, debut the first hotel-casino to be built from scratch downtown in 40 years (since Fitzgeralds opened in 1980) in time for the NYE hordes to get a gander at it.

But today, we have to call it a pick 'em. Who knows how long this health crisis will continue, disrupting the supply chain, labor, and financing? If things return to normal in the next few weeks, Circa probably has a chance. If not, well then, all bets are off.

    Construction
In Indiana with restaurants and bars closed and limits on how many people can gather construction continues around my town. But time will tell if that is okay.

    Circa
I hope they keep working on the Circa, even if they stop doing round-the-clock construction. It will be a great addition to Vegas and the downtown area, and by December hopefully this country and all of us will be in a better situation. I love Las Vegas and I'm rooting for it. And if this virus crisis somehow causes the corporate clowns to get rid of silly things like resort fees, parking fees, early check-in fees, late check-out fees, high rental car extra fees, etc then that's a silver lining to this big dark cloud we have now.
