Question of the Day - 25 November 2020

Q:

I like collecting Silver Strike coins from different casinos. Does the new Circa Casino have or plan to have any type of commemorative coins?

A:

Yes, but with a five-figure caveat.

Circa is issuing non-negotiable baccarat plaques. Both the $10K and $25K plaques are emblazoned with the image of Vegas Vickie, Circa’s mascot, as you can see in the photos. They don’t come cheap; you'll pay face value for them — pricey, in our opinion, for a casino souvenir. Then again, everything about Circa is pricey.

Other than these, at least for now as far as we know, the casino is issuing only negotiable casino cheques, which can become keepsakes, though they won't be worth more than face value.

Our thanks to Scott Roeben of VitalVegas.com for the photos.

    Non-negotiable?
    Thy do look pretty, but...

Why are the plaques described as ‘baccarat’ and ‘non-negotiabe’?

Can’t they be taken to the cage for redemption just like the round cheques?
Can’t they be used (or exchanged for smaller value cheques) at any Circa table game?

    Grand Opening Chip.
They did issue a $100 Grand Opening chip. Here's a link to the chips image: http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_showpic2.php?cg=254447

WOW what a waste of money!
I can just picture a Pawn Stars episode in 2025 where whoever bought these stupid things gets told they're worth $100 . . .

    $1 vs $1000 chip & RFID
Is it just me or does the $1 chip look VERY similar to the $1000 chip. Similar colors. With white being as close to a "universal" color for $1 chips and the whole visible color spectrum available why would they do that?

Also could the $10,000 and S25,000 plaques have an RFID chip in it, maybe in Vegas Vicky? Does anybody know??

At my income level it would be a tragic waste of money but if I hit the Powerball for $100 Million, I MIGHT have a different opinion...but I doubt it.

"Then again, everything about Circa is pricey."
    ...in your own words.
According to a couple of other sources, their restaurant prices are at the high end for downtown; plus they charge for parking and don't validate. No information on the games yet, but I have my suspicions.
They've got some cojones opening like that under the present circumstances--or else they're a lot more optimistic than most people about the future of Las Vegas.

    Chip RFID
TEXAS, most, of not all, casinos have had RFID chips for years now. I dont know if the miserly $1 and $5 chips would have them, but suspect the $25 and up would. They could theoretically be scanning you, anywhere in the casino, and know how much you are walking around with at any time they would like to know.

    $1/$1000 color
    @Texas -

You’re right. The faces of those chips ARE very similar in color.

However, the EDGES are very different. All casino staff are trained to look at the edges to determine value. They only look at the faces if they suspect that the chips are counterfeit.

After all, some casinos issue so many different designs, that not only do the different denominations have different art, but there could be many designs for a single denomination. Four Queens is particularly famous for this. They’ll commemorate just about anything with a new $5 chip.

Only the edge and edge cutouts is consistent. Which is why that’s what the staff (and most gamblers) looks at.

    Ear drum killer
I went to Circa the morning after the big opening. The pounding music plays on giant speakers attached to the ceiling. It is loud and painful. I could only stand it for about ten minutes and then I fled the place. I feel sorry for the people who work there because they will be deaf in a few months.

    membership rules
It did not seem to make a difference in the past but the rules on membership cut out member benefits so that has a membership that has a membership that renews in the month of December for the following year lose out. Easy fix I will only renew in January of every year after the 1st.

    Collectable?
Maybe. Everyone collects something. Chips, stamps, coins and maybe dildos.
