Now that the classic car collection at the old Imperial Palace parking garage is gone, where can I find other such exhibits?
The closest collection of classic cars in Las Vegas is at Classic & Collectible Cars, a family-owned and operated classic- and special-interest-vehicle dealership on W. Sirius Avenue a block east of Valley View Boulevard that's been in business since 1982. The big indoor showroom displays around 20 classic cars at any given time and the proprietors have appeared many times on the History Channel's "Counting Cars." Some of these cars can be rented by the public; C&CC also supplies classic cars for production shoots and location displays and appraises classic and customized cars.
A much bigger collection is on display in Laughlin, 90 miles south. It's Don Laughlin's Classic Car Museum at two locations in the Riverside Casino. They feature a rotating collection of 80 or so of "the world's most distinctive automobiles," some owned by Laughlin himself, an auto enthusiast and collector. The first-floor showroom is home to a variety of desert-racing vehicles. The main showroom on the third floor of the South Tower displays nearly 50 cars and motorcycles, all squeezed into every available square foot. Admission is free with a players card ($3 without). Like C&CC in Vegas, many of these cars are for sale.
Finally, if you ever make it as far as Reno, the granddaddy of Nevada classic-car museums is right downtown. The 34-year-old National Automobile Museum is located at 10 S. Lake Street near the corner of Mill and has been named by AutoWeek magazine as one of the top five automobile museums in the county and among the greatest 16 in the world. Most of the 200 cars on display in the museum come from the collection of the late Bill Harrah, who made a bit of money in the casino business.
