If someone has a hard time walking long distances, and is traveling to the Sphere via cab or rideshare from downtown, are the drop off/pick up zones close by? Is it better to use the Monorail? Or would the walk be too long? And not that cost is any real issue at this point, but what is an approximate cost from downtown, assuming dynamic pricing will be in play for cab/ride share.
There is a rideshare drop-off zone at the corner of Koval Lane and Sands Avenue, according to the Sphere’s website. That's about as close you'll get to the entrances on Sands and/or Westchester Drive on the east side of the building.
Teri Williams, public information officer for the Taxicab Authority, informs us, "An administrator drove by the Sphere the other day and didn’t see a designated taxi staging area, and their website only shows rideshare staging.”
Since the Las Vegas Monorail doesn’t go to downtown, that's out as an option. Besides, the Monorail doesn't stop at the Venetian, even though it runs past the back side of the property. Your nearest options are to get off at the Linq or the Convention Center, both of which entail a very long walk.
Using the taxicab’s fare calculator, we came up with a base fare of $29.75 to get from 1 N. Main Street downtown to the Sphere (a journey of 6.1 miles). If you use a credit or debit card, the fee swells to $32.75.
Rideshare services might undercut that, but they vary wildly depending on time of day, type of vehicle, and availability of drivers.
Of course, the same is true of cabs; the Taxicab Authority warns that prices can “vary dramatically” depending on similar factors. That said, you might want to stick with the devil you know: cabbies.
