Why did Bellagio/Caesar’s drain their water displays? Where does the water go and how do they get it back?
Bellagio’s fountain is fed by a natural spring underneath the property. As far as draining it goes, “It's returned to the water system via the runoff pipes to the water-treatment facilities. Refilling it comes from water that the property has rights to dating back to the old Dunes golf course. It’s actually less than that amount; the remainder is used in daily operations,” says MGM Resorts International’s Alan Feldman.
However, the lake at Bellagio wasn't drained for the shutdown. The fountains didn't operate on a schedule, but the news is that they'll restart when Bellagio reopens next week.
The fountains at Caesars Palace were drained. But we have to assume that a similar runoff prevails at Caesars Palace, since the Caesars Entertainment people gave us the brushoff three times, even though they get paid to answer questions like yours.
