Question of the Day - 21 July 2017

Q:

I stayed at the El Cortez last month and noticed a large piece of graffiti art on the roof of the casino that says "Duran Duran.” You can see it on Google maps. Any information on it?

A:

During the 2015 “Life is Beautiful” festival, which takes place annually downtown, Duran Duran was one of the headliners. As part of the festivities, the names of the bands appearing at the LIB festival had their names painted on downtown rooftops, which were subsequently photographed and used for promotional purposes.

Some hotels chose to paint over the band names. But the El Cortez, always conscious of history, has preserved this bit of nostalgia.

    Can't see it
I can't see it. Was a painted over version uploaded recently?

On the flip side, the roof of Planet Hollywood has a slot machine painted on it.
