Question of the Day - 07 July 2017

Q:

Any update on the new beer garden at Ellis Island that was announced last year?

A:

As a matter of fact, there is.

Ellis Island had a groundbreaking ceremony of sorts on June 22. The party took place in the Village Pub, location of the original bar opened by Frank Ellis in 1967; he passed it on to his son, current owner Gary Ellis. (One of Gary's daughters, Christina, is the EI marketing director; one of the last little joints in Vegas is a real family affair.) A scale model of what will be known as the Front Yard was on display.

The two-story Front Yard will extend the front of Ellis Island out almost to the Flamingo-side edge of its property, with an outdoor brewpub atmosphere, bar games (shuffleboard, beer pong, etc.), entertainment, and a good view of the Strip, especially from the second-floor seating area; the upper level will overlook the atrium where the live entertainment will perform.

A current exterior wall will be replaced with a large picture window looking into the brewery, so patrons can observe the brewing operation. A distillery is also planned for the Front Yard.

The new feature is scheduled to open sometime in November of this year, will create 100 new jobs, and will honor Ellis Island’s longstanding tradition of comping two drinks to casino employees.

    Flamingo Road?
This report is a bit confusing. You say that it's on the corner of Flamingo and Koval, but there's a gas station on the corner and then a convenience store and a gift shop between that and Ellis Island. Are they taking over those 3 businesses' space? Otherwise that's a bit of a misnomer to say it's on the corner. It's quite a ways off of the corner of Flamingo.
