Just returned to Las Vegas after being gone for six weeks and went over to Ellis Island for a little R and R. I was seeing some work being done on the outside (southwest corner) of the building. I did not give it much thought, but after entering from the garage, now I see that about a third of the interior is walled off for some kind of rework. Can you give us an idea as to what is going on?
Happy to.
Ellis Island is undergoing an expansion and renovation to the tune of $35 million that was originally announced last April.
First, the casino is being enlarged by 6,500 square feet that will stretch, like Front Yard, all the way out to the Koval Avenue sidewalk. The new section will have space for more than 250 additional slot machines and a new pit area; it will also comprise a center bar, expanded sports book, back-of-the-house audiovisual area, and new south service entrance. In addition, the Village Pub & Café and the karaoke lounge are being remodeled and a new rooftop event space is being built.
Much of the expansion is happening in the space formerly occupied by the micro-brewery that was demolished early last year.
When it was announced last April, the project was expected to be completed "in early 2025," but based on what we can see of the construction, it looks like the deadline has been extended. A recent update in the Las Vegas Review-Journal indicated that there's "no timetable" for completion.
