When Will Ellis Island's Front Yard Open?

When will the Ellis Island "Front Yard" open and why has it taken longer than estimated to build?

Ellis Island broke ground on the Front Yard last April, estimating it would be finished by late 2018.

However, according to Director of Marketing Christina Ellis, once the family — and their contractor — rolled up their sleeves and went to work, they found a property that hadn’t been renovated since 1997, so they set out to do a makeover that would last for at least another 20 years.

They also identified potential improvements and tweaks that could be made to the Front Yard itself. For instance, a second stairwell was added to the two-story structure, meaning other elements in the design had to be reconfigured.

When it opens early next month, the new projected date, the Front Yard will have a full kitchen, a bar on each floor (with different drink menus), space for live entertainment, and the structural potential to be an open-air venue when the Las Vegas climate is mild. Video gambling will be available on both the first- and second-story bartops.

As for the hotel-casino you know and love, “Everything inside will stay as it exists now.” Yes, karaoke, great barbecue, the steak special, Metro Pizza, and the free gifts at the players club booth are there to stay.

This in via email -- and yes, they still make their own root beer

"In the past I've been to Ellis Island and had their root beer.  I was told they make their own. Was that true and do they still make it? Whoever made/makes it, it always was good."

Actually, the original date supplied by Ellis Island was end of 2017, not 2018!

Let's put these delays due to extras and changes to the project in perspective.  First, the original date made public by Ellis Island was late 2017, according to articles based on their pre 
ground breaking PR event.  So, IF it is complete next month, this would be just under 2 years from that event.  To put this in perspective, the entire Bellagio hotel and casino, including the lake, took LESS THAN 3 YEARS to complete.  And yes, be sure that there were design changes along the way.

Anyone want to give me odds that the Front Yard will not be open by early next month?

Have faith my friend, you know Ellis Island has always done the works for us , my wife and I are coming over from the uk in Sept 2019 first stop `ELLIS ISLAND.`

Ellis Island is always our first stop after arriving in Vegas. Machines are tight but, the food is IMO the best value for your buck.

No longer our go to place

Some people feel Ellis Island still holds value in Las Vegas, we no longer feel this way. This renovation is long overdue and it appears there's definitely issues with the construction, perhaps they're waiting to see if the "wall" will actually be built before they bring in foreign workers.

Surprise!  They missed even this yet again revised date (early April.  Note that the original completion date was end of 2017).  Going by a pic I saw recently of the construction, it is nowhere near finished, still!
