Question of the Day - 07 February 2022

Q:

We were just at Ellis Island this past weekend and played lots of slots to get to get the $9.99 coupon and then the $7.99 coupon for the steak special. The $7.99 coupon never printed. The waitress said the price had gone up to $9.99. Do you know if this is true?

A:

Yes and yes. We do know and it is true.

The price of Ellis Island's venerable steak special, now in its third decade, has been raised to $15.99 retail.

But you can get it for $12.99 with the coupon from the kiosk and $9.99 when you play $5 through a machine.

It sounds to us that you paid the $9.99, as the $7.99 is inflation history. This dinner is still, in our humble opinion, one of the most amazing dinner deals, and not just in Las Vegas, but way beyond.

STEAK AND EGGS UP $2 ALSO
The excellent steak, eggs, breakfast potatoes and toast also went up $2. It's still a good do deal.

"Cheap" and "Amazing" are not synonyms
Is $9.99 an amazingly low price for a steak dinner? Yes, no question about it.

Should you get the Ellis Island steak dinner if you like steak? No, absolutely not.

Some of the worst meat I have ever tasted. And the sides were only marginally more palatable. Stay away.

    Something Not Kosher
That the Ellis Island Steak Dinner was No 1 (Top Ten List) for 1000 years...Had it a couple of times and it was always lukewarm and not the best cut of beef...the sides were mediocre at best. The BBQ was/is, in my mind, always a better deal.

    $2.00
I want to be the first to thank Brandon for that $2.00 increase.

    ellis island
My last three steak dinners specials in the last year and a half were bad. My party ordered four steaks at our last trip in January, 2022. The steaks were very tough and the baked potatoes were cold. The best special was for $11.99.

    E.I steak
I agree with some of the other comments regarding the Steak Dinner at Ellis Island. Years ago it wasn't a bad steak for $7.99. That was when you also got a salad with it. Also choice of potato, green beans and they actually gave you dinner rolls. Then the salad went away. Then the dinner rolls. If you asked they would bring you one. Then the one dinner roll went away. We stopped ordering the steak dinner about 4 years ago because of quality issues. Most of the other menu items were pretty good, but they have been going down hill the last couple years.

    Half & half burger
The last time that I was thinking about getting that steak special, I had a moment to review the menu first. I ordered the half-and-half burger instead. Half ground beef, half ground bacon, with cheese and more bacon on top. Damn yummy. And for the same price as the steak special, without having to need to get a coupon.

    Prime Rib
I'm partial to that King Cut Prime Rib. The last time I went in November I swear that cut was 2" to 2.5" thick, a juicy medium rare cut with mash potatoes and gravy. It was delicious. Looks like the price went up to $21.99, but I'd still go back at that price.
