Question of the Day - 05 August 2022

Q:

Are there any videos of Elvis at the International?

A:

There certainly are.

To get the entire Elvis International experience, at least as far as it was recorded, buy or rent the 1970 documentary, Elvis's first non-fiction film, Elvis: That's the Way It Is. You can see the trailer here. In it, Elvis rehearses his new TCB (Taking Care of Business) Band, relaxes as he gets ready for his Summer Festival run of shows at the International, and performs; it also takes a look at the fan culture surrounding the shows.

The following are free shorter clips, mostly, but not completely, from the documentary.

A great six-minute segment of "Suspicious Minds" shows Elvis in fabulous voice and shape.

Watch another tremendous nine minutes here.

This next one has "Love Me Tender," "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," and "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me," with Elvis interacting with the audience and shots of the packed International Showroom and the band and backup singers.

Perhaps the frontrunner for us, this one starts out with a favorite of ours, a cover of Tony Joe White's "Polk Salad Annie."

There are plenty more, like this one, this one, and this one. Google "Elvis at the International" and you'll be watching till tonight.

(A million thanks to Canada Roy for his detailed assist on this answer.)

    Elvis
He was a great entertainer, saw him in 1956 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Ga. believe the tickets were $3.50. Wow he was so cool.

    Good Information
$3.50 in 1956 was hard earned money because the average blue collar worker made only about $1/hr on an 8 hour shift , but that’s entertainment. Thanks for sharing.

$3.50 was not a bad price
In today's dollars, $3.50 in 1956 would be $38.13. Not a bad price at all. I think that you pay that much in processing fees for concert tickets today.

    Elvis at International
In the new Elvis movie, and it might just be movie magic, it appears there are quite a few clips throughout the movie. Overall, it's one of the best put together movies we have ever seen.
