My question is, what is the status of the Emerald Island since the sale? Who are the new owners and are there any changes coming that we should be aware of?
Emerald Island and the nearby Rainbow Club are now both owned by Ron Winchell’s LOGIC Commercial Real Estate, the sale having closed on Jan. 11. Also involved in the ownership is former Station Casinos CFO Marc Falcone.
Winchell and Falcone are also co-owners of the Kentucky Downs race course in the Bluegrass State. There, Winchell introduced historical horse racing machines, parimutuel devices on which people bet on the outcome of already-run races. They’re basically slots in drag.
Winchell’s family background is more in horse racing than casinos, as Winchell Thoroughbreds owns more than 120 horses. The 2017 Horse of the Year Gun Runner was a Winchell protegé. The new Emerald Island co-owner has described himself as a hands-off manager of Kentucky Downs.
Likewise, he must have been pleased with what he found at Emerald Island, as he left General Manager Tim Brooks (one of the two previous owners) in place. And initially at least, that's good news for players, as Brooks and his brother Mike established an extremely player-friendly culture at both casinos, making them a couple of the last value-oriented joints in southern Nevada, beloved among locals and visitors in the know.
Unfortunately, multiple calls and messages to Tim Brooks at Emerald Island yielded no response, but we have heard of one change for the worse.
Emerald Island and Rainbow combined the two properties’ monthly mailers. Back when they were separate, each had weekly coupons for the Emerald Isle Grille and Rainbow's Triple B. Now the weekly free meal is an either/or: one coupon in one combined mailer for both properties. You can go to the Grille or Triple B for breakfast or dinner.
The Rainbow is our blogger Bobby Vegas' home away from home and you can get a full recent report on why he so loves the place here.
