My wife and a couple of friends are coming to Las Vegas in July. My wife and I just went to Vermont and took a Ben & Jerry’s factory tour. The tour guide said there’s a factory in Henderson, Nevada. We have been coming to Las Vegas for the last ten years and don’t recall a Ben & Jerry’s factory out there. If there is one, we would like to know where and if they do tours.
The one and only Ben & Jerry’s factory is the one you went to in Vermont. We’ve toured it, too, and would recommend it to anyone visiting New England, not least for the “graveyard” of failed flavors, complete with tombstones.
However, while there's no factory, there are four Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shops in the Las Vegas area. If you want a quick fix of Ben & Jerry’s, go to Casino Royale, Harrah’s Las Vegas, Miracle Mile Shops, or the Grand Bazaar outside Bally’s Las Vegas. (The Palms and the Rio used to have Ben & Jerry’s outlets, but they’re long gone.)
What your tour guide might have been thinking of was the Ethel M Chocolate factory, which is surely the only chocolate emporium to come with its own cactus garden.
Too bad you’re not coming till July, because now is a great time to visit to take in the Christmas-themed light display (through Jan. 1). We’ve toured it several times and always come away impressed by the creativity and holiday cheer.
As for the factory, it's a stop on eight different bus tours or you can drive there on your own to take the self-guided tour where — your appetite sufficiently stoked — you can sate your chocolate craving in the store (though the last time we were there, they weren’t giving out any free samples, which used to be the highlight).
Ethel M’s a Vegas institution, one worth visiting in any time of year, but especially at Yuletide.
