Question of the Day - 04 June 2018

Q:

I just booked a trip to Las Vegas for the 4th of July in hopes of seeing the various firework shows. Now I’m seeing conflicting stories about who will and won’t be putting on displays and when.  I’m seeing that some of the displays won’t even be on the 4th. Can you provide a rundown of when and where the firework shows will be this year? I trust your information far more than what I can find online.

A:

While the plans for the New Year’s Eve fireworks displays aren’t revealed until mid-December, July 4th’s fireworks displays are announced months in advance.

And yes, you’re right that the biggest displays won’t be on the 4th. In fact, they won’t even be in July. Most years, recently, they’ve been scheduled for the Saturday prior to the 4th. This year, that’s June 30, when Caesars will host the show from the top of the Julius Tower (the old Roman Tower, remodeled and reopened a couple years ago). It begins at 9:15 and lasts for roughly 13 minutes.

The Plaza downtown also hosts fireworks on Saturday June 30. It’s the culmination of a day-long party on the pool deck. The sky show starts late, 10:45 p.m., and lasts around four minutes.

On July 3, there will be a fireworks show at Cashman Field after the Las Vegas 51s’ game against the Salt Lake City Bees.

On the 4th itself, you can see fireworks at different points around the valley. The biggest shows are hosted by Station Casinos at Red Rock Resorts and Green Valley Ranch. Both are major events, starting at 9 p.m. and finishing up around 9:10.

A second show in Summerlin will take place at the TPC Golf Course. The evening starts at 5 p.m. with a “Star-Spangled Spectacular” concert by the Las Vegas Philarmonic (celebrating its 20th anniversary; the fireworks will begin toward the end of concert.

Mandalay Bay will launch a fireworks show at 9 p.m. from the beach area during a concert by the Mystic Roots reggae band.

Also at 9 p.m. on the 4th, fireworks will culminate a day of celebration out at Lake Las Vegas.

Fireworks will also take place in North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, and Pahrump.

The big terrestrial event on the evening of July 4th will be a free concert at the Fremont Street Experience by country music superstar Billy Ray Cyrus at 9 p.m.
