What was the first ever question on QOD?
The first "question" was one we asked ourselves: What is "Question of the Day?"
It was posted on our site on May 15, 2004, and going back to take a look, we were amused by the first line of our answer: "QoD is LVA’s QED, a daily FAQ, FYI."
We continued, "Three hundred sixty-five days a year until further notice or doomsday, we’ll be posting a question regarding just about anything having to do with southern Nevada, gambling, Huntington Press books, non-HP books, LVA-connected people, personalities in the news, etc. After 21 years in this business, we’ve amassed a collection of literally tens of thousands of requests for information and more pour in hourly. This space is where we’ll answer and archive them for all to see and each day it’ll grow into an online symposium on all things Las Vegas and gambling."
Eighteen-plus years and 6,456 answers later, that seems to us to be a pretty prophetic vision. You can read the whole answer here.
Now, the first actual question we received was, "Is the new $3-a-day Las Vegas car-rental tax over and above the existing outrageous taxes on car rentals?" Interesting, and somewhat amusing, how the brand new "consumer facility charge" of $3 was considered "outrageous" at the time. And you can read that whole answer here.
