Did I hear correctly on the local news the F1 bridge over Koval on Flamingo is going from 4 lanes to 2 lanes? One lane in each direction? Is someone crazy? Flamingo going from 3 lanes to one in each direction will be a traffic nightmare. Could the Advisor please confirm or deny this?
Yes, we can confirm that the temporary bridge over Flamingo at Koval will be be two lanes for this year's Las Vegas Grand Prix, down from four lanes last year.
But it's not as bad as it sounds.
The bridge will take over the eastbound lanes, leaving the westbound lanes open. So there will still be two lanes in each direction, same as last year. Eastbound traffic will take the bridge over Koval, while westbound vehicles will remain at street level.
Leaving the westbound lanes open is in response to the massive disruption the four-lane bridge caused the businesses on the north side of Flamingo at Koval. It's a plan that F1 claims was worked out with Clark County Public Works, Metro Police, and business owners, though the Las Vegas Sun quoted the owner of the Stage Door Casino and liquor store and Battista’s Hole in the Wall, who said he "wasn't part of the discussion."
Meanwhile, the half-size bridge will be installed in mid-October and removed by mid-December and require a week to put up and take down, compared to 10 days each last year.
