Question of the Day - 14 December 2024

Q:

Who is Frank B?

A:

Good question -- which we believe came in off another question about when our book, All about Sports Betting by Blair Rodman, will be available. We mentioned that Frank has come on as a contributor and his editorial beneficence will be worth waiting for.

Anyway, Frank B is a long-time professional gambler and close friend of Anthony's. He's primarily known for his sports betting expertise, hence his involvement in Blair's book, and he's responsible for a number of sports betting advantage play innovations, one of which he was not only not given credit for, but it became synonymous with another gambling-writer's name.

When Anthony first fielded the fateful call from Mattress Mack's attorney, he agreed to help Mack hedge his furniture-promotion liability with sports bets under one condition: that he could bring in a "partner." Yes, Frank B has been the third leg of that highly profitable stool since the very beginning.

He's also a veteran tournament player and has, again, partnered with Anthony in many many tournaments over many many years. He's also participated in countless casino contests and drawings. In one of them, he actually won a house.

In addition, our impressions of dice control at craps come from Frank, who bought a regulation crap table, practiced for more hours than he cares to enumerate, and determined that it can be done, but you can't get away with it in a casino. Though dice setting is somewhat controversial, to us, if Frank says it doesn't work, it doesn't.

And there's more. Frank is a highly skilled blackjack player. This is evidenced by the fact that he won the skills contest at last year's Blackjack Ball. Every year, the greatest card counters in the world gather at the Ball, where one of the events is a tournament. The first part is a written test that's ridiculously difficult. Frank survived that round with a top score of 11 correct answers out of 21 questions to make the final table. Then the finalists compete in the various card-counting skills, such as deck estimation, card memorization, speed and accuracy in counting down two decks of cards, and the fine points of basic strategy. Frank aced them all to come out on top and win the coveted trophy. If you'd like to see the test questions and read more about the skills segment at last year's Ball, you can do so here.

Finally, if you'd like to get a glimpse of Frank in the flesh, you can check out the following video, in which Anthony and Andrew convened with Frank and Blair to discuss the controversy that erupted after the final table of this year's WSOP concerning a possible rules infraction by the champion.

it would appear that Frank "B." doesn't want folks to know who Frank B. is? and that's OK!
