Question of the Day - 07 January 2019

Q:

You ran a Question of the Day about free parking near T-Mobile for a Golden Knights game. What about if I don't qualify through the players club and have to pay for parking? What's the best free parking play then?

A:

For free parking to attend a game at T-Mobile, there are several alternatives.

One idea is to park for free at Treasure Island, take the tram to the Mirage, walk down to Crystals Mall, and pick up the tram to Park MGM and T-Mobile from there. Note, however, that the TI-Mirage tram, which reopened in early November after a complete 10-month overhaul, closed again in early December. We hear it's due to needing a critical part that has to be manufactured and that it will reopen in late February or early March.

The free lots at the Tropicana and Hooters are close enough to walk from. Hooters hasn't minded people parking for free and walking to the Strip; in fact, they've made a promotion out of it at least once. Tropicana tries to discourage it, so you might want to walk through the casino on your way.

Perhaps the best play isn't obvious, but Wild Wild West is a similar distance away as Hooters to T-Mobile. You have to walk across the I-15 overpass, but Wild Wild West sits on nearly 60 acres for its 260-room motel and small casino, so there's plenty left over for a few extra cars -- not that we encourage it; we're just answering the question.

Be aware that all these alternatives require a walk of at least 20 minutes each way, so paying to park at one of the nearby garages (which we described in our other answer) might still make the most sense.

And here's the link to Joe Pane's Knights on Ice post where you can read about yesterday's thrilling 3-2 VGK win over the New Jersey Devils at T-Mobile.

    event parking
the hunt for free event parking is the same everywhere and it's always futile. the walk to the arena is usually ok, but after you're stumbling around in the dark. that I-15 walk isn't dangerous but it's creepy and some of the street people an be obnoxious. Anywhere you park the property won't be sympathetic if something happens. overall I think it's best to minimize the cost, carpooling etc.

    Publictransit
Depending where you’re staying I’d recommend public transit.
Tram from Bellagio to Park MGM puts you steps away from
the arena. Also the monorail. Anyway you do it you’re
    gonna do lots is walking.
Or, get a taxi and split the cost between your party.

    T Mobile Parking
If you're going often enough, the MGM credit card automatically bumps the cardholder to Pearl status which comes with free parking at any of the MGM properties.

    Parking
It would be helpful if accurate information is given to readers.

Tropicana started charging $15 to park in its lots during VGK games. Not free as of this season.

You don't mention the "locals" best option . . . park at Westgate for free, so long as there is not a convention where parking is charged, and then pay $1 for the monorail each way. Not free but $2 roundtrip beats the $20-$25 parking fees
