Question of the Day - 04 May 2026

Q:

How many lightbulbs are there in the canopy of the Fremont Street Experience?

A:

Initially illuminated with 2.1 million incandescent bulbs, the Fremont Street Experience switched over to LED lighting in a $17 million conversion that went live in June 2004. The number of bulbs increased to 12.5 million at that time.

Another $32 million was invested in 2019 to improve the brightness of the LEDs, which increased fourfold by number and seven times by brightness (over the original bulbs). Today, the FSE canopy contains 49 million energy-efficient LEDs.

At first, the Experience was driven by 32 computers concealed in on-site kiosks. These were subsequently condensed to one central location and 10 computers.

At 1,375 feet long and 90 feet wide, the "crooning canopy" is the world's largest video screen.
