You did gambling songs; how about gambling metaphors? For example: "I lost my shirt"; "I came home In a barrel"; "suds" (took a bath); "came home a cabbage" (ahead); "needed Depends" (after winning a big jackpot); "had to maneuver the Apostles" (robbed Peter to pay Paul), and my favorite, "luck is a 4-letter word." I'm sure you and readers can add to the list.
Here are the ones we came up with. Feel free to add your own in the comments.
Ace up one's sleeve (for a hidden advantage or secret plan)
All around my hat (nothing left but the brim)
All bets are off (the situation has changed)
Behind the eight ball (stuck in a tough spot)
Bet the farm (risking everything you own on a single gamble)
Break the bank (winning enough to take all the money)
Cold as a dealer’s smile (devoid of fortune or warmth)
Crapshoot (a risky venture with uncertain outcomes
Down to the wire (a game determined in the final nail-biting moments)
Fortune kissed me on the cheek and picked my pocket (born loser)
On the cuff (playing on credit)
Paying the vig (owing interest)
Snake eyes followed me home (bad luck sticks)
Sweat the cards (watching every move with trepidation)
Walking home in my socks (stripped down by losses)
When the chips are down (in a difficult, dangerous, or desperate situation)
Wild card (an "X" factor that can swing outcomes dramatically)
