Just wondering why the old parking garage in Henderson where the old Reserve/Henderson Fiesta was torn down, is still standing proud?
The old parking garage on the site of the former Fiesta Henderson casino, demolished in July 2022, is still standing primarily because the city of Henderson requested that it be preserved during the demolition process. City officials are intending to incorporate it into whatever redevelopment plans for the property emerge in the future.
In December 2022, the city's Redevelopment Agency acquired the 35-acre site, with the garage intact, for $32 million (well below the appraised value), specifically to pursue redevelopment. The goal was to repurpose the parcel, a strategic location right off the 215 Beltway at Lake Mead Parkway for "community-aligned" uses, such as a sports/entertainment facility and retail or other mixed-use developments based on public input.
Redevelopment talks been slow. News about possible plans surface from time to time, but nothing has come of them. Negotiations with a potential developer, Woodbury Corporation, ended in February of last year and reportedly, the city has received new proposals, which it's reviewing. You can see a 29-page "Vision Book" for the site here.
In short, the "proud" garage hasn't been abandoned or forgotten. Someday, perhaps soon, it will serve as a stash for cars coming to a nice big community center.
