Question of the Day - 21 December 2021

Q:

How long did the fifties nightclub At the Hop last?

A:

The Hop (or At the Hop) nightclub was on East Flamingo. It opened in the mid-1980s and was pretty popular into the '90s, during which it managed to remain a novelty. But then it fell out of favor and closed.

It was sold in 1996 and reopened in early 1997; it was still called the Hop, but it played golden oldies on Wednesdays and Fridays only, with reggae on Tuesdays, Motown on Thursdays, and R&B on Saturdays.

It closed again in 1999 when the new owner died and never reopened as the Hop. So it lasted, in a few incarnations, for around 15 years.
