What happened to the horse that used to be at the Wynn rideshare pickup area?
Wynn Resorts assures us that it’s still at the main porte cochere, not to be confused with the south gate or the Encore porte cochere.
The muscular-looking equestrian statute is called “Dressage Horse” and was sculpted by Stephan Weiss. It was bought posthumously by Wynn Resorts in 2005 (the year that the Wynn opened). Weiss is perhaps better known as the late husband of fashionista Donna Karan.
Says Wynn’s Alexsandra Beranova, “The oversized bronze sculpture standing sentry at the main entrance of Wynn Las Vegas is a tribute to the Hanoverian mare, Brentina, believed to be the greatest American dressage horse ever. Weiss passed away in 2001, and Karan debuted ‘Dressage Horse’ two years later in 2003, at New York’s Hampton Classic Horse Show — a fitting venue, given Weiss’s desire to capture the grace and beauty of equestrian movement. In mid-step, the horse is captured in a powerful fluid moment of equine motion. Sensual and sinuous in its design, this work was part of Weiss’s final collection, which he titled ‘Larger Than Life.’”
