We stayed for the weekend at the Downtown Grand and did not receive housekeeping services. Come to find out they don't provide daily housekeeping. I thought it was Nevada law or a Culinary Union rule that housekeeping had to be provided. Any insights?
Typically, according to the Grand’s front desk, rooms are cleaned every three days. If you have special requests (other than a full room cleaning), you're encouraged to call the front desk for towels, bottles of water, etc.
Nevada law makes no provision for the minimum number of room cleanings. Such a decree was enacted during the pandemic, which mandated daily room cleanings. However, when COVID eased its grip, the Nevada Legislature rescinded it.
In the past month, a state senator made a valiant attempt to bring back daily room cleanings. However, her effort was thwarted when Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo indicated he would veto such a bill if it passed.
We couldn’t reach the senator, but Culinary spokeswoman Bethany Khan told us that the union's contract with the Downtown Grand mandates that rooms be cleaned every day, not every three days.
Culinary Secretary Ted Papageorge followed up in an e-mail to LVA. “The Downtown Grand contract that was won last year does require daily room cleaning. But the reality is this: Because the Nevada Legislature agreed to strip daily room cleaning from state law in 2023, enforcing this standard has become a constant challenge."
