What poker players in different states can compete against each other in the same online tournaments?
Recently, PokerStars combined its online poker pools in Michigan and New Jersey. It's the first time players in the two states have been linked for online poker.
The Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement was ratified by Nevada and Delaware in 2014. At the time, they were the only two states where online poker was legal. It increased the liquidity of the two state's online-poker tournaments, though only slightly; even today, Delaware's online player pool is minuscule. But in 2017, New Jersey signed on and that greatly increased the prize pool of online poker games for players in the three states.
Now, poker players in New Jersey and Michigan can compete against one another, and players in New Jersey, Nevada, and Delaware can compete, but players in Nevada and Delaware still can't play against those in Michigan.
Why not? The reason is that players in New Jersey and Michigan compete on PokerStars, while those in New Jersey, Nevada, and Delaware play on WSOP.com.
Online casino gambling is also legal Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and West Virginia, but none of them has any involvement yet with the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement.
