Last year around this time, you wrote about the Bighorns, the Ultimate Frisbee Association Las Vegas team's inaugural season. How did they do last year? Did they survive? And if so, what's the plan for this year? We're coming in May and we'd like to see a game.
The Las Vegas Bighorns joined the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) as an expansion team in the West Division for the 2025 season. They replaced the shuttered Dallas Legion in the league's realignment and played their home games at Bonanza High School, near Charleston and Rainbow.
And yes, they survived and will be back this year, playing their first home game at Bonanza on Saturday versus the aptly named Carolina Flyers. We're happy to seem them return.
Survive, though, is a relatively terms in sports. The Bighorns struggled mightily in their inaugural season, finishing with a record of 12 losses and exactly zero wins. They were blown out in their first game against the powerhouse New York Empire 32-13 and lost to the Colorado Apex in Week 9 by a score of 26-10. They kept a few games competitive in the first half, but couldn't sustain the momentum.
There were, of course, a number of notable moments. The most was a 70-yard connection for the team's first-ever points against the Empire.
On the other hand, the head coach and the team parted ways midway through the season, with an assistant coach taking over in the interim.
For this season, a Las Vegas local has been announced as the new head coach and the two team captains from last year are back in those leadership roles.
Overall, while the winless record marked a tough start, it positioned them as a developing franchise in the professional Ultimate scene.
Tickets are eminently inexpensive at $15 per game and $80 for the six season home games. If you do attend a home game, let us know how you liked it.
