Question of the Day - 17 May 2019

Q:

A few of us are going to be in Las Vegas in September this year (for a 50th). I've not been since 2013 and I'm wondering if there have been any significant changes to any of the Strip pool areas in that time?

A:

This year, two new pool scenes have shown up — NoMad at Park MGM and KAOS at the Palms. The NoMad pool is located on the third floor of Park MGM. The pool party is called Jemaa, named for the main market square in old-town Marrakech, Morocco.

KAOS is the product of a year-long build-out to completely transform the Palms pool area. It began as a partnership with the Tao Group and though that arrangement is no longer in place, it figures that a lot of the design elements were hatched during that collaboration—including the grotesque (in our opinion) centerpiece, “Demon,” in the Demon Pool.

The main pool at the Venetian closed last September and has been undergoing a major renovation ever since, complete with a tall crane. Last we heard, the pool was expected to open sometime between May 25 (best-case scenario for the big Memorial Day weekend) and the first week in June. We're very interested to see the changes that have taken upwards of nine months to implement there.

The Hard Rock’s infamous pool party, Rehab, which basically launched the daylife trend 20 years ago, is no more; it ended its run last Labor Day weekend in preparation for the transformation of the property to a Virgin hotel-casino.

This year, according to the information we could gather prior to all the openings for the May Advisor, 11 pools are dealing live blackjack, nine are “toptional,” and 36 (four fewer than last year) are open to the public in some form, though there’s often an admission fee.

Otherwise, the scene looks a lot like it has for the past several years, with all the usual suspects, which you can see on our pool page.

Okay.... I asked the original question. I was thinking more along the physical environment, rather than the 'club' scene. For instance - since the Monte Carlo became Park MGM - does the lazy river etc still exist or has that gone? That kind of physical change. Thanks.

    from the pool page link
Diamonddog, click on the "pool page" link provided above in the answer. I copied and pasted this one for Park MGM Pools. Looks like the Lazy River might be a gonner for now.

The Monte Carlo waterpark it ain’t. Though a new Lazy River was announced, it never flowed this far (too lazy?) and the wave pool, waterslides, and huge kiddie pool are gone. In their place are three slightly separate pool areas, each with its own shallow rectangle with water in it and a little too much concrete for our taste. Palm trees dot the poolscape, providing some free shade; otherwise, rent a cabana for $150-$300, which comes with frozen grapes and some other stuff. To sit on something soft, you’ll shell out $15 on a lounge for one, or $75 for a daybed for up to four of your closest nearly naked friends and hookups.

Very good Candy! :) I like a bit of humour...;) I suppose you can't monetize a lazy river... short of charging people at to actually use it. Thanks again.
