Question of the Day - 13 December 2025

Q:

I know video keno is a hot game now. Are there any live keno games being run in Las Vegas? If so, are there still keno lounges to sit while you play? Are any of them offering runners to get players in the restaurants and lounges? I guess that's a 3-part question.

A:

We answer this question once every year or two. The last time was early last year; not much has changed since then.

The Horseshoe still has live keno and it's the last one with a keno game on the Strip. The long-time space at Harrah's closed a couple of years ago and the other sole survivor at Excalibur preceded that. In 2008, friend of LVA ,Stewart E., toured 23 Strip casinos and found that eight still had live keno, so seven have closed in the past 17 years.

Downtown, you can still find three: at the Plaza, D, and California.

The locals joints that have keno include Arizona Charlie's Decatur, Boulder Station, Gold Coast, Green Valley Ranch, Orleans, Palace Station, Red Rock, Santa Fe Station, and Sunset Station.

All 13 have lounges where players can sit and watch the games go by every four to seven minutes. Red Rock's is regarded as the best in Vegas, a spacious lounge with high limits and good service.

And we found four that still have runners, collecting and paying off bets throughout the casino and in the restaurants. At Palace Station, they service some of the restaurants, the bingo room, and the race and sports book. Similar are Boulder Station and Santa Fe Station, along with the Gold Coast.

If anyone knows of any more, we're all ears.

    Orleans
The Orleans Keno area is pretty small, but it does have restrooms right next to it, so that is convenient. It's located on the right side as you enter from the parking lot that's on Tropicana. There are maybe 60 to 80 seats, but there are never more than 15 to 20 people max in the area.

The worst game and the best
Live keno, with a 25% or so house advantage, is the worst game in the house, but with so few decisions per hour, and low wagers, is one of the best in terms of cost per hour.

The only trouble is, much as time spent fishing is not subtracted from your overall life span, every hour spent sitting in a keno lounge costs you three days.

    Better during a meal
We always played a few games during cafe breakfasts/lunches. Occasionally won a bit. Enjoyed it, sorry to see it go.

IMHO the demise of lounge Keno says something about casino gambling psychology, the rise/expansion of VP and slots occupying our hearts and minds over slower paced games.

    Jerry’s Nugget
Last time I was there, Jerry’s nugget still had live keno.
