I enjoyed reading your review about The Composer's Room at the Commercial Center. It reminded me of talk about Lotus of Siam and a possible reopening at their original site. Do you have any updates on this?
Lotus of Siam, widely considered the best Thai restaurant and among the best restaurants, period, in Las Vegas, will open a new location in Henderson West, a mixed-use project going up at St. Rose Parkway and Bermuda Road. It was supposed to open by the end of last year; we hope it does by the end of this year. It will be the third location for Lotus (the Lotus owners have essentially disavowed the one that opened late last year at Red Rock Resort).
The original restaurant opened in 1999 in the Commercial Center on E. Sahara just a few blocks from the Strip. It closed in 2017 when its roof collapsed after a storm. Shortly thereafter, a second location opened on E. Flamingo. The Sahara Lotus reopened in 2020, but closed just one month later due to COVID concerns. Most recently, it reopened in 2021, before issues related to staffing closed it again.
As for its current reopening, we stopped holding our breath a couple of years ago after announced dates came and went several times. It's not for a lack of trying; the owners purchased adjacent storefronts that are turning the original 12,000-square-foot location into 19,000 square feet, with more seating, a bigger bar, and an expanded kitchen. Recent reports suggest the reopening could happen before the end of 2025, potentially earlier if renovations continue to progress smoothly. But again, we'll believe it when we see it and trust us, we're really looking forward to it.
