Question of the Day - 20 May 2020

Q:

Any chance there will be an extension on using the 2020 coupons into the 1st quarter of 2021, as we lost that time to the shutdown?

A:

We answered a version of this question a month ago in the 4/23 QoD. But we keep getting variations on theme, and have had some time to work out the policy.

The short answer to an extension is no. There's no way that we'd be able to mobilize all of the participants for extensions. Some might extend while others wouldn't, and it would result in an administrative nightmare.

With regard to a truncated window of use, you're looking at about 60 days during which you couldn't use your MRB. That leaves more than 300 days during which you could. There will, no doubt, be some offers that are voided permanently because they are no longer available (e.g., some buffets may not reopen). If you feel this is unfair, you have two alternatives:

1. Return your unused MRB for a refund. We will refund in full if you're a Diamond member (online only) and on a prorated basis if you're a Platinum member and receive issues in the mail.

2. Exchange your unused 2020 MRB for 2021. In order to do this, your membership must extend into 2021. If your membership expires in 2020, that means you never had the 2021 option and must renew.

Please note that both for refunds and exchanges, it is the customer's responsibility to return the unused MRB, either dropped off in person or delivered by mail. We will waive the coupon-service fee when mailing of the 2021 MRB is requested.

Any chance there will be an extension on using the 2020 coupons into the 1st quarter of 2021 as we lost that time to the shutdown?

    Really?
Don't see a reason for any accommodation. I used some coupons before I was thrown out on March 18th. I'll use more in June and the rest of the year. The lockdown will not impact the number of coupons I can use this year.

    MRB refunds
This refund policy is more than fair, it should take care of anyone that feels they got shortchanged on this year's MRB. There probably are some folks that are only able to visit Las Vegas now and then, maybe just once a year or even less often than that. If their trip was planned for sometime in first half of this year and now they can't reschedule it then I understand their inability to use the 2020 MRB. So the ability to exchange them for 2021 MRB, or get a refund is a nice option. Even when the casinos reopen and gaming is available there will likely be plenty of other things that are not available for some time, like concerts, shows, major sports to bet on, buffets, etc. And the fear-factor will diminish people's desire to visit attractions like the pool, Bellagio fountains and conservatory, crowded sidewalks, poker rooms, lots more. Just because the casino floor is open doesn't mean people will suddenly flock to Vegas. Too many uncertainties, even getting on a plane is worrisome.

    Thanks
Thanks for the options on trading in or refunding the 2020 books. As a member living on the east coast, I am only able to make 1-2 visits a year and my May visit was cancelled. This gives me options for the rest of the year And next and is much appreciated.

    Very Fair
I haven't visited Las Vegas since they blew-up the Stardust, so this is academic for me, but that sounds quite fair. Anthony Curtis definitely knows how to run a customer-centric business.

(One day, I hope to make a pilgrimage to the Neon Boneyard and leave a wreath at the foot of the Stardust Sign, then try to get out of town fast before being hit with the wreath laying charge and the Pilgrimage Fee.)

    No Refunds Needed
You could use one coupon in the book and it pay for itself. So, I don't see any need to refund anyone's money.

There's being frugal and then there's biting the hand that feeds you. LVA needs our support and we need their information. This site is by far the best bargain out there for Las Vegas lovers.

You missed 60 days. Get over it.

Go to Las Vegas and have some fun!

    Free Parking?
I heard (as you wrote in your LVA Weekly post), that Free parking is back at MGM properties. What will hapen now, as I have reservations for August 2020 at one of the resorts, and I added parking fees ( as an add on to my reservation), will they refund me?

    Fair
had to postpone two trips until end of july and hope to use the buffet coupons then but not holding my breath. otherwise, the casino match and slot plays are still a go, as is the visit to ellis island for the drinks & 50% off in the cafe

    Agree with others!
Totally agree with the current comments. LV Advisor is very cheap for the quality of work we get, and I think ANY accommodation given is far above what is required!

    Refund--NO WAY
What a class act in offering the refunds and/or swapping a 2020 MRB for a 2021 book. We only go to Vegas once a year and that was zapped in April. We have rebooked for October, however, even if we didn't, we wouldn't have wanted a refund. I feel the benefit of LVA is far better than the cost of the membership and even though we do our coupon run when we are there, I look at the MRB as an added bonus and not the main reason we are LVA members. I appreciate the work that is put into making our trips to Vegas better, the QOD, and the friendly folks who answer the phone any time there is a question. Hell, I even bought some of their books, hoping my little purchase would help them through the Covid time and I'm not one to sit down and read through a book! Might take me 5 years to get through the books I purchased. LVA, thanks for everything! Ron in NC

    MRB is a Bonus
Like Ron, I see the amount I pay as access to the newsletter, which is a great asset to any trip to Vegas. The coupon book is a great bonus, but in reality I find it hard to force myself to make a coupon run unless I'm already planning on being at a certain place. There have been a couple of years that I haven't used any, or just a couple, no sweat off my back.
