Which Las Vegas casino has the most slot and video poker machines?
A big thank you to the 65 of you who participated in our little guessing game. We hope you had a little fun doing so.
And kudos to MannyB007, Lysle Pietsch, Kevin Rough, Kevin, Diane Crosby, John Rutecki, Alohafri, Mike Scudiero, Francis Romano, Vegas Vic, Dachuda, Loyd Vegas, dblund, and jonanderson for the correct answer.
Also, a lot of you, starting with Jackie, were on the right track, naming many of the locals casinos, and you'll understand why in a moment.
Here are the casinos with the most slot machines in Las Vegas.
Yes, Red Rock Resort, way out in Summerlin, boasts the most gaming machines on the casino floor with 2,545. Red Rock is followed by Boulder Station with 2,279. Third is Green Valley Ranch with 2,199, then the Orleans with 2,094. Closing out the top five is Sunset Station with 2,030.
Four of the five are Station casinos, one is Boyd, and none is on -- or even close to -- the Strip.
If you’re surprised that no Strip casino made the list (we certainly were), you can chalk it up to locals casinos drawing a more slot-oriented clientele, which is also why they're historically light on table-game revenues.
Though they have fewer machines, Strip casinos draw the majority of their gross gaming revenue from their slots (the $385 million in May set an all-time high for Strip slot revenue). Also, Strip slots tend to be set more tightly, holding more of the drop, so locals casinos need a greater inventory of bandits to see the same bang for their machine buck.
Another thing to keep in mind is that there has definitely been a trend toward fewer machines on casino floors in recent years. By removing rarely used machines, you can open up your casino floor more and focus on games that are more popular with players. Also, the new breed of slot machines is a lot bigger than the old, so fewer machines take up more floor space.
You might also be surprised by the number of slots at the biggest Strip casinos. The Wynn has the most at 1,850, followed by Caesars Palace at 1,600, Venetian with 1,430, Resorts World 1,400, Bellagio 1,383, Cosmopolitan 1,344, Aria 1,317, and MGM Grand 1,200 (yes, the huge MGM Grand casino is eighth on the Strip), Flamingo 1,097, Circus Circus 1,076, and Mandalay Bay 1,067. Circa, downtown, has 1,354. (All numbers are accurate as of March 31 and courtesy of the Gaming Control Board's "Unrestricted Count" spreadsheet.)
Beyond Las Vegas, we understand that the Winstar in Oklahoma is the world's largest casino, with an astounding 7,500 machines. Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa has right around 5,000 and Foxwoods has approximately 3,500.
