Question of the Day - 30 April 2022

Q:

Any update on the Majestic Hotel? Wasn't it supposed to break ground in early 2022? And if so, did it?

A:

Unfortunately, the answer is no.

The Majestic is planned to be a non-casino "wellness" hotel with a 45-story 720-room tower, 10 floors of medical offices, a huge (70,000-square-foot) spa, and six restaurants. The developer's stated goal is to create the most high-end resort (complete with 30 corporate suites) in the U.S. — a lofty ambition, considering that the location is in a sort of no-man's land on Convention Center Drive, though the positive is that it's within walking distance of the Convention Center, putting planeloads of potential patrons at the Majestic's front door.

Ironically, for a hotel dedicated to wellness, the Majestic fell victim to the pandemic. Groundbreaking was scheduled and canceled at least twice in 2020 and 2021, then announced back in October, as you state in the question, for early 2022. But we haven't heard a peep about the place since then.

If the Majestic does get going — and at $850 million, it’s not a sure thing — it will take three years to complete.
