Question of the Day - 20 March 2018

Q:

I just flew into McCarran Airport for the 60th time in my life. I always enjoy the advertising displayed around the walls of the baggage-claim area. With the millions of visitors flying into McCarran each year, how expensive is that baggage-claim advertising space?

A:

Wow, you must be really racking up the frequent-flier miles.

A source at Lamar Alliance, which sells the advertising space on behalf of McCarran International Airport, says display advertising goes for “somewhere in the $12,500-to-$20,000 range per every four weeks” -- depending, we assume, on the size of the display.

That might seem like a hefty price tag, but 132,000 people pass through McCarran on a daily basis, so advertisers are, ostensibly, getting value for their money.

It may be more effective than you think. McCarron has some of the slowest baggage delivery in the known world. I know I have sometimes checked out a restaurant or show after seeing/hearing their advertisements for 40 minutes! Also, the fact that they are all video ads with sound probably make them more effective than the static posters you see in most airports.
