Many years ago, in a QOD, I remember reading about a McDonalds on Ann Road attached to a Terrible’s with gold in the bathrooms. I searched the Internet and QOD to see if it is still there but the only things I find are dated back to 2007. Is it still there?
You might've bumped into our own coverage of this bathroom, which we wrote about in the QoD on 7/31/07. It was an attempt by staff and readers to find the place, which they ultimately did.
They went on the quest after seeing it on a Travel Channel program, "Las Vegas' Top 10 Bathrooms," but failing to make note of the location. This restroom was one of those featured, thanks to its incongruous gold fixtures and fittings -- even the toilet seats were rumored to be gold-plated -- along with chandeliers throughout the dining area. The McDonald's in question was (and it) located at 2836 W. Ann Road at the corner of Simmons St. in North Las Vegas.
We've learned, however, that the bathrooms have been denuded of all their gold fixtures and the dining area of their chandeliers.
“It looks like just recently, this restaurant underwent a full remodel and all the gold fixtures were removed,” says McDonald's PR representative Katy Reve.
That was the extent of her response. She gave no reason for the back-to-basics move or, for that matter, why such fancy accouterments were installed in the first place. Such is the transitory nature of Las Vegas. Cross off one more thing from your to-do list while in Sin City.
