Question of the Day - 25 December 2019

Q:

Merry Christmas!

A:

This most inspiring time of year,

Christmas always brings such cheer.

Generosity and joy abound,

Why can't we do Christmas all year-round?

(With apologies to Catherine Pulsifer for the tweaks to her little ditty.)

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Festivus (and Boxing Day), everyone.

Merry Christmas 2019!

So let me ask you each and everyone
Was your gifts given to those who cold get their own or to those who could get nothing and were needy? What would your religious belief dictate? For those who have no religion I suppose you had no guidance to do anything but did you do something? Knowing your gifts will be returned next week where they were purchased, or regifted next year to another, maybe even kept but never really wanted or appreciated, and maybe, just maybe, someone was joyful over your gift, most likely a child. So tell me your stories, was all the gift giving productive, worth it, or even appreciated? Tell your stories of Christmas cheer, if you can.

    season to give not receive
we made our seasonal contributions to loaves and fishes (a local ministry for the homeless), the harlingen humane society, the salvation army, the houston spca, and kitties of the valley.
we have also given cash to the bell ringers for the salvation army stationed in front of our shopping mall. our most fun contributing was shopping for approx. 20 gifts (soccer balls, art supplies, etc and of course gender neutral), and donating them to the marine military academy's toys for tots program also here in harlingen, tx. life is good here in the rio grande valley in south texas. might as well spread it around. Merry Christmas to all...

    Christmas Eve in Las Vegas.
I've always tried to imagine what it would be like to be in a Strip casino on Christmas Eve. Imo, It must be the saddest place on Earth, barring the obvious ones like funeral homes or homeless encampments. There's something about Christmas Eve that is totally antithetical to everything Vegas.

I've fantasized about being in Vegas on Christmas Eve and seeing someone playing video poker by himself in a mostly empty casino and going up to him and asking, "Are you Bob Dancer?" (Just realized Bob took his fake name from one of Santa's reindeer. He probably should have chosen Blitzen.)

On a website, not about Vegas or gambling, I saw this:

"B" U still going to casino tomorrow [ed. Dec. 25]?
    "J" yep
    "J" wish me luck
"B" casino will take things off your mind for awhile
    "N" luck your way
"J" I'm going to be brave and eat by myself at the buffet

If that's not enough to break your heart... I hope everyone had a much, much merrier Christmas than "J."
