I’m a bit confused on what the Marriot Bonvoy/MGM rewards program is all about. Should I be concerned at all?
Not at all. In fact, It’s especially beneficial if you’re an MGM Rewards member.
The way it works is that MGM Rewards Gold and above members who have also enrolled in the Marriott Bonvoy program can link accounts. If you're a Gold-level member of MGM Rewards, you join Marriott Bonvoy at its Silver Elite level. If you're an MGM Platinum member, you go into Marriott’s Gold Elite. And “Noir” MGM Rewards customers become Ambassador Elite members of Marriott.
Mind you, this introductory offer expires at the end of this year, so don’t let any grass grow under your feet. It’s a special deal for MGM Rewards adherents. There's also no corresponding program for Marriott Bonvoy members to join MGM Rewards. As you see, it’s a great value for MGM customers, maybe not so good for Marriott ones.
The only potential headache is that you’ll have to set up a Marriott Bonvoy account in order to take advantage of the tier match. After that, surf into your MGM Rewards account and link to your “My Rewards” page. You ought to see a window that says “Link a Marriott Bonvoy Account.” Click on that and enter your Marriott Bonvoy credentials. The computers do the rest.
After that, you can start earning points at most MGM properties that will be valid for both MGM and Marriott. Be sure to check in advance, as MGM hotel-casinos are joining the Marriott program in a staggered rollout.
Some are excluded entirely. These are Delano, NoMad, and Four Seasons in Las Vegas, Empire City Casino in Yonkers, MGM Northfield Park in Ohio, and all international properties associated with MGM Resorts. All Marriott Bonvoy-branded hotels are participating.
