Question of the Day - 15 March 2021

Q:

Somehow I must have missed the article on the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut opening a casino in Vegas. When and where?

A:

The Mohegan Tribe, whose reservation is in Uncasville, Connecticut, owns Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, which operates the Mohegan Sun on tribal land and is set to run what will officially be known as the Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas when the new Virgin opens 10 days from today on March 25. The 60,000-square-foot Mohegan Sun Casino will join Hilton Hotels, which will manage the 1,500 hotel rooms under its Curio Collection brand.

Formerly the Hard Rock Las Vegas Hotel-Casino, it closed in February 2020 for a complete renovation by Virgin Hotels, which purchased the property for $500 million in March 2018. Virgin was supposed to reopen in November 2020, but has been delayed by the pandemic.

When Virgin opens, the Mohegans will become the first Native American tribe to operate a casino in Las Vegas since gambling was legalized in Nevada in 1931.

    Also
Mohegan Sun also operates the casino at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, formerly known as Resorts International, the first casino to open when gambling became legal in Atlantic City back in 1978. No relation to Genting's Resorts World.

Mohegan also owns Mohegan Sun Pocono in PA, which also has a horse track.

I believe they own or operate a couple additional locations, but they're out of my area, so I haven't kept track...

    Don't bother
Mohegan Sun Pocono is known for its horrible pay tables. 7/5 is a good JoB table there. The local rumor states that they don't even pay the state minimum and just pay the fine to the state as it costs them less money.

Isn’t the Avi owned by a Native American Tribe?
