Question of the Day - 13 July 2021

Q:

What casino in Las Vegas has the most slot and video poker machines?

A:

Today, for a change of pace, we're gonna play a little game.

Rather than give you the answer straight off, we're asking you to guess. It'll take less than a minute to come up with and post your conjecture in a comment box (and no cheating via Google; you're on the honor system).

But here's a hint to get you started. Not only the number-one hotel-casino for the number of slots, but also the top five, will surprise you. They did us.

It should be fun to see the different comments.

    Off hand guess
    Locals casinos would dominate

  • Kevin Lewis Jul-13-2021
    My guess is..
One probably no one else will come up with: Fiesta Henderson. It just seems to me that a) it's pretty big and b) a greater proportion of the casino floor is devoted to slots and VP than almost any other casino. They have only one small table games pit.

  • OMB13 Jul-13-2021
I'm guessing based on the past.
Many years ago, it was the MGM. So, I'm gonna stick with it.

  • salukidean Jul-13-2021
My first thought remains my first choice
I’d be surprised if the #1 casino is anything except Orleans.

  • rett98 Jul-13-2021
    Local Casino
My guess it would be one of the locals casinos like Sams Town.

  • Eldon Swyer Jul-13-2021
    Eldon S
    Southpoint

  • Sam Glantzow Jul-13-2021
    one of two
I'll echo Orleans as number one, but Gold Coast in the top five for sure

  • Allen Emory Jul-13-2021
    Wynn/Encore
If the Wynn and Encore are one casino I would say they have the most of both. If not then MGM maybe? It a good question.

  • David Liming Jul-13-2021
    Machine Plan
    Palms ... when open!

  • Dave_Miller_DJTB Jul-13-2021
    WAG
I assume you mean the metropolitan area and not just the city.

    I’m guessing Green Valley Ranch.

Then again, I haven’t been to some of the outlier places. And I haven’t seen the new places yet either…

  • Hoppy Jul-13-2021
    MGM Goes on forever ...
Golden Nugget has to get an honorable mention

  • Kevin Rough Jul-13-2021
    My guess would be...
Red Rock, Orleans, Boulder Station, South Point, Santa Fe Station

Those are casinos where the machines seem to be never ending.

  • Sherry Jul-13-2021
    Qod
MGM for most Southpoint for best

  • Edso Jul-13-2021
    Great Question
Wow, what a great question. Not having been to all the casinos, especially to some of the outlier local casinos, I am going to go with the Orleans.

  • Jim Valla Jul-13-2021
I have never been there, but
I would like to some day, South Point

  • [email protected] Jul-13-2021
    local casinos
My guess is either Southpoint or MGM

  • CLIFFORD Jul-13-2021
    Let's see...
    How about the Flamingo ?

  • Kevin Jul-13-2021
    Hmmmm......
    Red Rock?

  • Kenneth Jul-13-2021
    MGM
    Gotta be MGM,Maybe Orleans

  • Laddy Janovsky Jul-13-2021
    My Guess
    MGM

  • Mike Jul-13-2021
    Total guess here...
So at first I would have thought a large property on the Strip. But your hint threw off my first guess. So now I'm going with, I dunno, Orleans? The last time I was in there (many moons ago) I remember the floor being pretty expansive, in which one could stuff many a slot/VP machine. Can't wait to see the top 5!

  • Terry Jul-13-2021
    Maybe
    Sam's Town??

  • Diane Crosby Jul-13-2021
    most gambling machines
I think it used to be MGM. From my experience, though, could it be Red Rock?

  • Greg West Jul-13-2021
    Most slots.
I would say all of the Dotty’s combined.

  • John Rutecki Jul-13-2021
    Best Guess
Red Rock The last time I visited I was suprized by the amount of slots.

  • Scott Stassen Jul-13-2021
    just thinking
CAESARS PALACE because they do everything big.

  • Scotski Jul-13-2021
    Most Slot & VP Machines
My guess is The Orleans. MGM Grand for on the strip.

  • alohafri Jul-13-2021
    My Guess
I would have to guess Red Rock. It is virtually wall to wall.

  • Jerry Patey Jul-13-2021
    # vp
Well ? Should be which have best full pay. machines. You could have 1000 and no one plays I would think the local casinos. Main Street Station when it opens. Orleans Fremont. Palms did. It would not surprise me if a strip casino would win. The fact they are unplayable does not matter. I go where the best paying tables. If they only have 50 machines I go there. You see high rollers playing poor machines on YouTube. They make up for loss with comps and cash back. Who really cares who has greastestc#? It is irrelevant. I will go to vpfree and play at the best casinos.

  • Mike Scudiero Jul-13-2021
    MGM
Given that it's (or at least was) the largest casino floor in town, I would have to guess it's MGM.

My top 5, having not cheated or even read anyone else's responses, would be:

    1) MGM
    2) Harrah's
    3) Venetian
    4) Bellagio
    5) Red Rock

But based on the fact that this question was posed with a "the answers might surprise you" approach, I have a hunch my initial reactions could be way off.

  • Texas Transplant Jul-13-2021
    Guess ..MGM??
    I'd guess the MGM.

I haven't been there for years since the strip got "fee crazy" but from what I remember the casino was huge (not to mention "impersonal")with high ceilings and many hundreds of slots.

Again, just a guess, I go where the VP odds are the best, not impressed by "huge" or "glitz" anymore

  • Croupe Jul-13-2021
    Total guess
    Treasure Island

  • Frank Romano Jul-13-2021
    My picks
Red Rock and Orleans definitely Top 2. MGM might slip in at #5. #3 I would guess Fiesta Henderson and #4 Golden Nugget.

  • Lora Jul-13-2021
    Machines
    Santa Fe

  • John Dixon Jul-13-2021
    Guess
I'm going with Orleans, Sam's Town, or South Point. Yeah, O kn ow that's three but I couldn't decide.

  • Jerome Sinkovec Jul-13-2021
    Hmmm...
Could it be Slots A Fun?

  • Hoozdo Jul-13-2021
    El Cortez
My guess is El Cortez - that casino floor is jam packed. My alternate guesses would be any number of locals casinos.

  • john murphy Jul-13-2021
    john
    MGM

  • Brent Peterson Jul-13-2021
    My Answer
The obvious answer is sometimes the correct one, so I'll go with the MGM Grand.

  • VegasVic Jul-13-2021
    Off Strip Casinos
I don't play machines (craps and blackjack only) but it's great to see so many great casinos mention here. Most people never get off the strip. I stopped staying on the strip years ago. I do rent a car because I do a lot of other things (hiking in Bryce Canyon and Escalante next week for example).

Red Rock Casino is fantastic. Green Valley Ranch. Orleans has a fun craps area. M Report is top notch. South Point is good.

  • [email protected] Jul-13-2021

  • jim Jul-13-2021
    Total Guess
I'd say Sam's Town or Orleans but I haven't been to every casino in greater Vegas

  • Keith Crane Jul-13-2021
    A Floridian
Aria, Mandalay Bay, Green Valley Ranch, MGM Grand, Resorts World

  • Ray Jul-13-2021
    Charlie?
I always thought that Arizona Charlie's (on Decatur) had the most VP machines. Certainly their percentage of VP over regular slots is significant. As far as regular slots, both South Point and M seem to have large casino spaces filled with slots. I also have to agree with many of the others that Gold Coast has a lot of machines and may well be one of the tops.

  • Lori Jul-13-2021
    Venetian/ Palazzo
If we are able to count both of these casinos as one, it has to be the Venetian / Palazzo. The Orleans seems like it could never be in the top five even though I love that place

  • dachuda Jul-13-2021
    How about?
    Red Rock or Boulder Station?

  • Seamans Jul-13-2021
    most
MGM, bellagio, south pt, wynn, treasure Island

  • O2bnVegas Jul-13-2021
    Long Shot
Like the Richard Dreyfuss character in "The Long Shot" ("I'm having a wonderful day"), I'll guess Treasure Island because nobody else. I was in a hurry this am but now I see someone else also guessed Treasure Island, so maybe Dreyfuss' system was a good one (it worked for him that day...LOL). Plus, 20 or so years ago when we passed through to see Mystere it seemed like it was packed with machines sided by side throughout. LOL.

    Most Slots
Going to say the Orleans,Resorts World,Red Rock, Sam's Town and MGM

  • dblund Jul-13-2021
    A guess
Most total machines I would guess Red Rock, but if you look at most VP, I'd guess South Point.

  • Ron Coventry Jul-13-2021
    i would guess
    MGM..or Mandelay bay

  • Jonathan Rickert Jul-13-2021
    My guess
Santa Fe. Place is surprisingly huge

  • Weko Jul-13-2021
    Just for the heck…
My top three guesses would be El Cortez, Circus, Circus and the Airport

  • Jon Anderson Jul-13-2021
    king of slots in LV
red rock is the slot king of LV...

  • Jokare Jul-13-2021
    Total guess
Santa Fe, Orleans, South Point. Never been to MGM, but years ago I would have said Samstown as they also have the second floor, but I think they’ve taken a lot of machines out. I want to say Orleans, but I’m going with Santa Fe.

  • Lysle Pietsch Jul-13-2021
    mcduffer6
My vote goes to Red Rock.

  • MannyB007 Jul-13-2021
    My guess is...
    Red Rock

  • AL Jul-13-2021
    Casino w/ most slots/VP
One person beat me to it, but I'm guessing Caesars Palace, only because the one time I walked through it, it seemed to go on and on and on, lots of area. No downtown casino is a candidate except possibly Golden Nugget, because they all only take up 1 block total. But I'll confess I haven't visited all casinos. I've never been to M, or South Point, or Green Valley Ranch, among others.

  • Jimmy Cat Jul-13-2021
    Gotta be #1
    MGM Grand

  • Susan Johnson Jul-13-2021
    new favorite
My first thought was the Orleans, but then we have played there a lot. My husband picked Southpoint, his new favorite place. We just stopped there in May and really liked the whole casino. It had been years since we had been there when I attended a Bob Dancer class. Planning on staying there later this year and had been hoping to attend Bob's class again. I hope they don't change anything else!

  • Roy Furukawa Jul-13-2021
    Locals Casinos Rule
I could only imagine a locals casino having the title. Too many of those table games on the strip, even for the large sizes of casino floor space. Strip hotels also have too many of those useless things like bars, restaurants and clubs too. :D

  • dchealer Jul-13-2021
    Ever changing world...
I want to say MGM, but maybe some of the new casinos have them beat? South Point probably has the most video poker, but that's just what they advertise on GWAE. :) This is a fun question, I would also like to see: Which casinos have best VP pay tables?

  • Allen Bouchard Jul-15-2021
    Allen B
Red Rock would be my guess. Not much unused space on the floor
