Question of the Day - 16 December 2022

Q:

Will there be anything different about accessing the new 2023 newsletter? Will there be directions, if so?

A:

Thank you for asking this question. It's an important one for LVA subscribers who will, indeed, see a slightly new format to the newsletter starting next month.

But it will be just as simple to access: You'll click on either the link in the notification email you receive when the new issue is posted and/or the Newsletter link under Member Benefits on the home page.

When the newsletter appears on your screen, it will be on a new platform, called Flipsnack, a "flipbook" tool. In the Flipsnack window, you can turn the pages with forward and backward arrows. You can also move quickly through the pages using the main slider that runs across the bottom of the window.

The other controls at the bottom of the window allow you to change the size of the pages (with a secondary slider), download the whole file (with the down arrow), print, search, and switch to and from full screen. Click on the full-screen icon (the last one on the right) to enlarge the newsletter, while still scrolling horizontally. Or download the newsletter to enlarge the pages and scroll up and down.

Want to see Flipsnack in action today? It's the same platform we use for the LVA Holiday Catalog. Click this link, experiment with the control buttons, and in 60 seconds, you'll be up to speed.

All the above is on your computer browser. From a device, it's exactly the same, except for full screen, turn your phone sideways. You can also download to read from full-size pages.

Starting in January, you'll also notice a positive change in the newsletter itself. Thanks to no longer having to fit all the content into a small (print) box, the newsletter can open up: more text, photos, features, pages -- in short, more of the great information from the Vegas veterans and gambling experts that have made the Las Vegas Advisor what it is over the past 40 years.

We hope you'll give it a chance. You'll be happy you did.

    Already Happy
I prefer the digital version. So, I'm all in on the new Newsletter.

    Download
In the demo, there's an option to download the file as a PDF. It doesn't work. It displays this error....An error occurred while generating the PDF - Please republish and try again. Is this a problem at your end or mine?

    @Gregory
    I got the same error

    Download
Definitely not working. I got the same error message also.

    PDF
Definitely a problem on our end. We'll address it today. But now you know how to download the newsletter when the time comes. We're already laying out the January issue, so we know the download works.

    PDF Option
I'm glad you are offering a PDF option. My experience with flip book tools is that the print is too small to read, even on my 24" monitor (you can usually zoom it, but that makes them almost impossible to navigate). So whenever I get a newsletter or other digital publication I always download a readable PDF version if that option is available.

    newsletter
I'll miss the paper copy on my coffee table but it works fine on my tablet!

    Thrilled!
Can’t wait! I’ve been reading the newsletter from my iPad for years, and I love it! 😊

    Downloadable
I'm happy to hear the newsletter will be downloadable. I don't mind reading on-line, but there's a dinosaur who lives with me who still prefers everything in print.

    casinos use it
Casinos are using this system for their monthly offers, I suppose to cut down on postage/mailing. Theirs are very easy to use and easy to read, at least on my computer. The only thing I'd hope LVA's is improved on is that you must 'stop' the flipping by clicking on the forward button or it flips forward about every 3 seconds, too quick to reqad it all, then reclick to start it again. Sounds like LVA has that inconvenience solved!

    Increase in Revenue
If I read things correctly the charge is at $50 for the year now for the digital version, the same cost as the printed copy now. Seems like a 25% increase, kind of like the rest of Las Vegas with the gouging of customers. Less cost, less work, but let's stick the customers!!!

    Price increase
AC mentioned in the November newsletter that there would be only one plan available going forward and that the new price would be $50. It's less than a buck a week. I think I can afford it. He hasn't raised the price since 1992, so it's long overdue.

    2023 coupons
When will the coupons for the 2023 book be available to view online?

  • John Hearn Dec-19-2022
    $50 is still a steal
I took my annual trip last week, staying downtown. Between the match plays, the free plays, and a couple of food coupons, I made/saved about $100. (I got lucky on my match plays.) $50 is still a BARGAIN and I will be re-upping when the time comes.
