Question of the Day - 08 September 2021

Q:

Reader Poll: Which hotel-casino do you think (or hope) will be imploded next?

A:

As we indicated a couple of months ago after a poll on the polls, we decided to run them on no set schedule, just when one presented itself.

Well, friend of LVA Mike Scudiero submitted this one.

Mike writes, "Not that I’m wishing any casino's demise here, but since people seem to get really hyped for a planned implosion that yields something bigger and better, a fun poll would be vote on which casino gets imploded next and rebuilt from the ground up. We had a ton of these in the '90s and a few in the 21st century and I’d bet people would be surprised to know most of those were only about 40 years old. That would be like seeing Bellagio or Venetian imploded in another 15 years, which obviously seems unimaginable. But if you organize the poll from the oldest to the newest casinos, it will be interesting to see if the age of the property aligns with the number of votes it gets. If not, then it becomes a reverse popularity contest -- based on which casinos voters would prefer, for whatever reasons, to see bite the dust."

Thanks, Mike!

Since the choices are just a list of Strip-and-vicinity casinos, we've foregone the poll preview. We also ordered them chronologically, from the oldest to the newest. And we limited them only to those with high-rise hotels that would justify an actual implosion, rather than just a mechanical dismantling.

Here's your link to the poll: Which hotel-casino do you think (or hope) will be imploded next? Happy voting!

    Excalibur
Although we always get a car when visiting, we also always stay on the Strip. The Excalibur has been an eyesore for quite some time in our opinion. Would love to see something fresh and new there.

    Blow it up!
Circus Circus has often been talked about as a place overdue to be imploded. But I think it earned a surprising amount of revenue for MGM and they thought about renovations to it, then they sold it in 2019 to Phil Ruffin that also owns Treasure Island. So who knows what Ruffin will do with Circus Circus.

    witch hotels to blow up
We have been going to Las Vegas 2-4 times a year since 1996. Have not been there in 1 1/2 years (because of covid). All I read and hear from friends (who have been there lately) now is how terrible the service and treatment by the hotels are now. The worst thing is the bump up of table minimums. up anywhere from 2x to 5x. Stick it Sin City..... Implode all of them!!!
