What is the oldest Italian restaurant in Las Vegas?
Well, that depends.
Some accounts designate the Italian American Social Club as the oldest. It started out as a private social club for men only and in 1960, it purchased the property it still occupies at 2333 E. Sahara Avenue near Eastern. The funds were raised in a raffle whose prize was a Cadillac convertible donated by Frank Sinatra for the purpose of opening a headquarters for the club. However, the restaurant didn't open until 1990, when the club also began admitting women. Though it's "only" 35 years old, the 12,000-square-foot place has a rich history that includes every Italian American entertainer who has performed in Las Vegas and its walls are adorned with hundreds of photos of entertainers and celebrities who've eaten, drank, and performed there.
Battista's Hole in the Wall opened in 1970 and you can read the whole story of this place in our QoD on the subject. So that, to us anyway, precedes Italian American by 20 years, at least in the public-restaurant department.
Piero's would be the second oldest Italian restaurant in Las Vegas, having opened in 1982. We ran a QoD about Piero's a few weeks ago, which we assume, though it didn't specify, this question was based on.
