Question of the Day - 03 March 2019

Q:

So many Pai Gow tables have now added a progressive payout. What are the odds of hitting a 7-card straight flush using a 53-card deck?  How about 5 aces?

A:

We passed this question off to the inimitable Michael Shackleford, a.k.a. the Wizard of Odds, whose book Gambling 102 is coming out in a new edition very soon.

His answers: The odds of hitting a seven-card straight flush (including a wild one) are 1-in-676,066; the odds of getting five aces are 1-in-136,652.

VP games that have a progressive for a royal on the deal. Would that progressive be paid if the royal was on a redeal?

It's nice to hit one, sometimes
At Planet Hollywood on Feb. 3rd a guy hit with 6-Q of diamonds natural. Unfortunately he didn't have either the fortune bet (8000-1) or the $5 Progressive bet which was over $400,000. He pushed the hand. Everyone else at the table had bet the fortune bet and got $5000 envy.
