Maybe you can give us all the summary of what’s going on at the Palms. We were there over the weekend and man, we barely recognized the place, with all the temporary spaces, coming soon signs, and construction walls. How much is being changed? And why?
The new owners of the Palms, Red Rock Resorts (formerly Station Casinos), is making an investment of nearly a half-billion dollars, $485 million, to be exact.
Aimed at restoring the resort to its previous reputation as one of Vegas’ hippest hangs, the project includes room redesigns and renovations, several new celebrity-chef-led restaurants, plus a noodle bar and new steakhouse, a nightclub and pool club operated by the Tao Group, a new wellness spa and salon, and a revamping of the Pearl Theater.
This follows the in-progress renovation of the casino and the addition of bars and restaurants, including the new buffet that’s opening next week.
That’s the big picture. Here are the details.
The first phase is well under way and includes a new marquee, porte cochere, and hotel-registration area; a new central bar; a renovation of 18,000 square feet of meeting space with views of the Strip; a rooftop club operated by Clique Hospitality; and an upgrade of the 14-screen movie theater. This phase, according to Red Rock, is on schedule and budget and will be completed sometime in the spring.
As for the second phase, nearly 300 rooms and suites in the Fantasy Tower are being renovated; another 60 rooms will be added from space in the tower that was never finished.
The restaurants will include seafood and raw fish from Bobby Flay, barbecue from Michael Symon, Italian from Marc Vetri, and the Las Vegas version of New York’s Vandal restaurant.
The new nightclub will top out at upwards of 30,000 square feet, while the pool club will be more than twice that size, able to host 5,000 guests year-round.
A new lounge will be operated by Clique Hospitality, which also has a lounge at Cosmopolitan (the one from which OJ Simpson was banned for life recently).
The new 20,000-square-foot spa and salon will feature 16 treatment rooms and state-of-the-art fitness facilities.
The 2,600-seat Pearl Theater will be completely renovated, then operated in a partnership with Live Nation.
More than 500 of the existing parking spaces will be covered.
The Phase Two improvements are scheduled to be completed in late 2018 or early 2019.
