Question of the Day - 31 December 2022

Q:

I got the MGM credit card to attain Pearl Status and be able to park for free at MGM properties. With the recent change of Mirage operations to Hard Rock, I assume that card won't get me free parking anymore. Is that correct? Has Hard Rock changed the parking-fee structure at Mirage? Also, is there any news yet on whether Fontainebleau will charge for parking when it opens next year?

A:

A source close to Fontainebleau tells us, “Details for the operations are still being finalized and we have more information closer to the opening" in late 2023.

If we had to predict, we'd say that it will be tough for Fontainebleau to charge for parking, especially right out of the gate, considering that its three closest neighbors (Circus Circus, Resorts World, and Sahara) offer free parking, while its next three closest (Wynn, TI, and Venetian/Palazzo) also don't charge for parking.

As for The Mirage, Hard Rock has been operating the place for more than a week and like almost everything else about the property, the paid-parking fees haven't changed; they're still the same as they were when MGM Resorts ran the joint.

To answer your Pearl status question, we called to confirm that it will be honored (including any comped room nights you might have stored up), as long as you roll over your status to Hard Rock's Unity players club.

Incidentally, the first sign of the new Hard Rock regime is that the Mirage’s 800 number is no longer answered prior to 7 a.m. Pacific Time. We trust that is only a transitional phase in this 24-hour town.

According to a recent YouTube blog post,
Resorts World just introduced parking fees for visitors without a player's card [1]. That sounds fairly innocuous since all you have to do is get a card; but I suspect it's just the first step. Probably in a year or so they'll restrict it to the higher tiers, like several other places around town already do.

As for Fontainebleau: opening day is still a long way off, and anything can happen. Let's see how they're doing and what they're charging for (and how much) after a year in operation, or two years.

    pearl status at mirage
I also have the mgm cc to get pearl status. I went to mirage last tuesday and my mgm card didn't work in the parking lot,

had to go to unity desk to update my info. they said mgm card is no longer valid at the mirage. they gave me a unity card and was
able to use the card to get out of the parking lot (for free ).
I asked her how long the unity card was good for,, she said till feb 2024. HRH is matching pearl status. They upgraded me to ICON status. To my surprise , they also put $50.00 on my card to use at any of their restaurants.no expiration date on that.
