On the Christmas Eve YouTube, Anthony said he's hearing Dotty's will be taking over the Poker Palace in North Las Vegas rather than the northern Nevada company that has been announced. Anything to add to that rumor?
In a word, no.
Our research failed to find any reports on the shuttered Poker Palace in North Las Vegas being taken over by Dotty's (operated by Nevada Restaurant Services, Inc.) instead of Truckee Gaming.
History also shows that this would be a curious development indeed.
Poker Palace was sold to Truckee Gaming, a Reno-based operator with nine small locals casinos in Nevada. The deal was signed in May, the Nevada Gaming Commission approved licensing for Truckee Gaming on September 26, Poker Palace closed on September 30, and Truckee took over on October 1. The company immediately launched a complete $20 million renovation and Poker Palace is slated to reopen, with a new name and theme, no later than the middle of this year.
In addition, Dotty's is a chain of slot-focused taverns, not full casinos like Poker Palace. Indeed, Nevada Restaurant Services owns and operates the Laughlin River Lodge, which has 1,000 hotel rooms in a 25-story tower and four separate "casinos," none of which has table games, only slots. The company would have to go through extensive licensing proceedings to offer the bingo, a race and sports book, blackjack, and poker that Poker Palace had before it closed. Meanwhile, Truckee Gaming has long held nonrestricted licenses for its nine full-bore casinos in northern Nevada.
All that said, Anthony hears all kinds of things from all kinds of people about all kinds of Las Vegas-related happenings, so we're not disputing or even diminishing this possible development. But as of this writing, all the evidence is to the contrary.
