Question of the Day - 08 March 2023

Q:

Poll results: Best breakfasts in the tourist corridor

A:

The results of our poll on the best breakfasts primarily on the Strip (and vicinity) and downtown are in.

Starting with the Peppermill at number one, it's definitely a who's who of favorites as ranked by nearly 2,000 votes from visitors obviously in the know about the Vegas morning repast. You can see all the vote-getters in order by clicking this link

And if you'd like to compare the tourist-corridor breakfasts to the local favorites, this link takes you to our first breakfast poll on neighborhood places from a few years ago.

Also, Peter B, who supplied Sunday's QoD about buffet brunches with bottomless bubbly and mimosas, sent in this addendum, addressing questions in the comments about brunches that don't include alcoholic drinks.

There are five other brunch buffets with similar or lesser offerings without alcohol and they’re all in the same price range:

- Circus Circus, $28.99
- Excalibur and Luxor, $31.99
- MGM Grand, $36.99
- Garden Court at Main Street Station, $36.99

Most of them charge for parking, which is free at the three brunches I reviewed.

So they (readers who commented that, since they don't drink or wouldn't partake of the sparkling wine/mimosas) aren't really "paying extra for someone else’s drinks." A large glass of orange juice probably costs them more than a glass of sparkling wine or a mimosa and from what I’ve seen, most of the guests just order coffee or soft drinks.

It’s the same with the food. I’ve watched people stuff themselves with rice, potatoes, and pizza at a buffet with a great selection of beef and seafood. So they’re paying for someone else’s prime rib and crab legs. It’s their choice. Buffet managers keep track of that and set the prices accordingly.

    Excellent Rebuttal Peter
Your comment on coffee/soda/tea costs (usually at least $3.50) was dead on. And the same for what items to load up on and which to pass on "value" wise. Bottom line is there are maybe two or three buffets at casinos these days worth the money and those are the ones not worth the time typically especially for mid to low tier wjere Golden Corral is just about as good as most for maybe $15 and zero wait.

    Peppermill
Used to be open around the clock, not any longer. Don't know ow if it's staffing or just not much business at ight, but miss it as an all night stop.
