    Dupar's at Golden Gate
Of all these, the closure of Dupar's at Golden Gate is the most puzzling to me. There was a waiting line daily to be seated for breakfast. The food was recognized as being superior, if a little on the pricey side for breakfast. The owner of Dupar's has a relationship with the Golden Gate dating back decades. The closure left Golden Gate with no restaurant whatsoever. Dupar's still maintains a location at Suncoast that seems less well patronized than the location they closed at Golden Gate.

When you talk to the Dupar's people, they say Derek didn't renew their lease. When you talk to the Golden Gate people, they say Dupar's didn't pay their rent. There must be more to the story.

We definitely miss not being able to eat breakfast there. It has been something we did at least once a trip for many years.

    Mermaids
Mermaids was by far the most fun casino in all of Vegas. The drinks flowed freely in there and it was small enough that the waitresses and staff recognized you from visit to visit. We called it our "attitude adjustment place." If the gambling was bad, we could always go into Mermaids and they would show us a good time.

    25 cent progressive
The deuces wild progress at the Golden Nugget. Even though it had a poor overall return, we played this a lot. My husband and I both got a royal and several 4-deuces while our stay at the Nugget. They changed the payouts on this bank of eight machines to much poorer returns and later each machine had a different progressive. No thanks. Now we don't play anything there other than Poker.

    So many things...
We agree with Rob above, Dupars at the Golden Gate was one of a kind. We loved the pancakes and mashed potatoes - even the salmon was good. But the best thing was the location. I hope the GG puts in another food option sometime soon and hope they bring back the $99 shrimp cocktail - I still have coupons for those that I won getting Blackjacks!
